After we lost our first rott Miss Fancy on August 9, 2000, I said "One day, our home will once again be graced with that special kind of love that ONLY a Rottweiler can bring. " It might be years down the road...but he/she will come. It has been so very hard to move on past the loss . My first urge was to rush out & get another rott, but I quickly figured out that it was not the answer. Every animal we have came to us in need of a home. There are too many in need of a home & most of them find their way to our house .(ha)
Well......that day has arrived!! Yesterday, we got a call from a guy that had picked up a rott from a man he was visiting. The dog needed a home & he knew how much we loved this breed. He said 'The man said this dog is a puppy, but there is NO way cause he is huge!". LOL.
Knowing I'd jump on it in a heartbeat hubby told the guy to bring her so he could check her out. I took the loss of Fancy so hard, he didn't want me to get excited if she was very bad health-wise. He had good intentions, but should know I'd take them in no matter what the condition.
She is an 8 month old female (full blooded rottweiler) & weighs 60 pounds. Her coat is pretty dirty but you can see the shine under the dirt. She hasn't had a hard life physically but emotionally she is a mess. She adores every person she meets & is so eager to please. She has never had puppies --only been in heat 1 time.
We tested her with a variety of ages/sizes of people & she loves everyone. She was half-starved when she got here last night & you could clearly see her ribs & hips. She has quiet a bit of loose skin to grow into.
She has NO problems w/ any of us reaching into her food while she eats. We can lift her feet, check between her toes look in her mouth & not a word--or even a grumble. I know that'll change after she figures out that she now lives here cause she'll start testing her limits. The dog has never had a collar or leash on so she fights that a bit. I walked out to the porch last night with a cup of coffee while hubby was getting her ready for us to examine & she shoved her nose in my cup & guzled half my coffee before I knew it. So I know she has a caffeine addiction. LOL.
Overall, she's a great dog. VERY high energy--never sits still. She's outside for today because I have a housefull of baby ducks and turkeys & I'm pretty sure she'd try to get to them. She barked & tried to shove her way into the guinea pen outside so I don't want a disaster with the birds. We are going to try to get her inside today. Of course, that means housebreaking but I have crates & know how to go about doing it without stressing me or her too much.
THANKS to you all for allowing me to brag. It sure feels good to see that black & tan wiggle-butt around here again.
